Do you often find yourself in a lot of pain around your hip region when walking, going up stairs, crossing your legs or lying on your side?
It could be caused by Greater Trochanteric Pain Syndrome, or GTPS for short. That’s a fair mouthful isn’t it? So what is GTPS?
Here at Southern Riverina Physiotherapy a common condition we often see is GTPS. The term itself is used to encompass a range of lateral hip conditions such as bursitis, gluteal tendinopathy, and myofascial pain – yeah some more huge words that you will not be using in conversation.
Clinically we are more likely to see women present with lateral hip pain due to the morphology of this hip, lending itself to increased compressive forces on the gluteal tendons. It is likely these compressive forces on the tendon that slowly cause maladaptive changes to your tendon. This is in accordance with a growing body of literature that identifies gluteal tendons as the likely source of pain rather than solely bursitis.
I could go on for a long time though, but by now you are probably wondering what I am talking about and asking how can Physiotherapy help?
Quite simply here at Southern Riverina Physiotherapy we perform a comprehensive assessment, where we don’t perform any shortcuts, to maximise the efficacy of our diagnosis – that is to get you the best result, less pain and greater mobility. It is my belief that clinical diagnosis and differential’s is the most important part of the initial appointment as this drives the subsequent treatment your Physiotherapist provides and likely better outcomes for you the patient.
So if you find yourself suffering from pain around your hip region when walking, going up stairs, crossing your legs or lying on your side, don’t hesitate to get in touch and find out what we at Southern Riverina Physiotherapy can do to assist you.
